Insight2050 Corridor Concepts: Central Ohio’s Good Idea for Managing Population Growth

Insight2050 Corridor Concepts provides a proactive plan for population growth and development, over the next 30 years. The Central Ohio region is expected to grow by nearly one million new residents by the year 2050; this study examined current and future development patterns and offered specific strategies for absorbing much of the projected new population.

Determining where those extra 33,000 people per year will live, work, and raise their families in Central Ohio was the goal of Insight2050 Corridor Concepts: Options for Focused Growth and Mobility Study Report. The study explored how more walkable, compact neighborhoods that are connected to the larger region through high-capacity transit can have a net-positive impact on transportation, infrastructure, housing, and the environment and help accommodate the projected population increase.

It also focused on five existing corridors, which represented high levels of development opportunities and needs for infrastructure improvements. Additionally, these five corridors represented existing challenges in other corridors throughout the region where success could be replicated in the future.
